Holding Ground Architects was born when two friends from Maine joined forces in Montana to see if they could build a company that provided both architecture and construction.
HGA Design Build is an architecture and construction company led by architects. We are an agile group of designers, construction managers and craftspeople who deliver construction projects that uphold the inspiration and intention of architecture and design and the clients who we serve.
Ethan was born in Connecticut and imprinted by years spending time on an island in Maine. From the beginning of his architecture education, Ethan has been drawn to the process of translating questions and ideas into made things. Inspired by formative professional experiences in mentor-based, collaborative work settings, Ethan set out to establish Holding Ground as a process-based practice emphasizing relationships between people and the landscape. Ethan is a registered Architect and he earned his Master of Architecture from the Rhode Island School of Design. Before beginning his career as an architect, Ethan played professional baseball, worked in finance, and apprenticed to a master carpenter on an island in Maine.
Tripp was born and raised in Richmond, California. Tripp’s father ran a boat yard on the pacific coast before moving the family to Missouri to start an organic farm. Tripp has been shaped by many forms of hard, physical work and a curiosity to explore and enjoy the arts. Tripp has worked professionally with a diverse range of clients and project types. Tripp bridges our clients’ most ambitious design endeavors with the realities and opportunities of construction. His ability to deliver exceptional design under schedule and budget constraints has grown from experience in overseeing complicated commercial, academic and residential projects. Across large and small projects, Tripp is thoroughly prepared and in possession of the information necessary to lead everyone from trades people to clients towards successful and satisfying outcomes. Tripp is a registered Architect and earned his Master of Architecture from Montana State University.
Cam grew up in the Pacific Northwest and was schooled as an architect at Montana State University. Cam has become a model member of our company as someone who contributes both in the architecture office and as a skilled carpenter in the field. Cam’s experiences as both designer and builder make him an effective project manager who understands the interface between architecture and construction.
Agnes grew up in the Northeast and devoted her years after college to developing her skills in outdoor leadership as both an educator and a guide. More recently, Agnes has focused her professional efforts in the construction world and arrived at HGA following experiences as an apprentice carpenter with various contractors in the Gallatin Valley. In her time with HGA, Agnes has continued to broaden her abilities in the field as a energetic team member and who is driven to produce quality work alongside her colleagues.
Seth was born and raised xx, Minnesota. Raised by a father who is a builder, Seth has been involved in carpentry and construction throughout his whole life. As a longstanding member of our company, Seth arrived at HGA as a seasoned carpenter with additional expertise in steel fabrication, concrete work and interior and exterior finishes. Seth’s versatility and willingness to take on anything required of HGA makes him an excellent project manager/field coordinator and a model member of our company.
